Young Boys

Reasons To Adopt

Here is the argument for Young Boys: Switzerland, Switzerland Super League, and a ground called Wankdorf Stadium. A second team should give you something your first one cannot, and this is a different country's whole weather system.

• Old enough to matter

1898 is the founding date, old enough that the club has survived a war, a rebuild and at least one financial scare, young enough that the good years are still in living memory.

• Something to defend

The cabinet is not empty: Coppa delle Alpi and European Cup/UEFA Champions League. Small enough to recite from memory, big enough to argue about in a pub.

• Proper ground

Wankdorf Stadium takes roughly 32,000, big enough for atmosphere, small enough that you can learn where the singing corner is on your first visit.

• Easy weekend

Bern Airport (BRN) is about 6km from the ground, and Bern Wankdorf railway station is 1km closer still. A home fixture is a genuinely doable two-night trip.
